Low vision is considered a significant visual impairment that cannot be fully corrected with glasses, contacts, medication or eye surgery.
The goal of Low Vision OT is to enable individuals with low or impaired vision the opportunity to live meaningful, safe and productive lives at their highest level of independence.
Our Low Vision Occupational Therapist can help you use your available vision to accomplish everyday tasks through the use of modifications, adaptive equipment or magnification.
What conditions can Low Vision Rehab address?
Insurance
Low vision OT services may be covered by your insurance company if the following criteria have been met.
- Visual acuity of 20/70 or less in the better seeing eye with correction.
- A visual field deficit of 20 degrees or smaller
- Bilateral field deficits
- Central field blind spots (scotomas)
In addition to any of the above: determination that a patient's vision loss has resulted in a functional limitation or unsafe performance in activities of
daily living.

Visually impaired children should be afforded LVR services at an early age. The younger the child, the more the intervention is aimed toward visual stimulation activities as they relate to the child’s overall development.
Some of the most common ways are macular degeneration, glaucoma, and cataracts; but the number one cause of vision loss in the country among working-age adults is diabetes. Other causes include accidents, strokes, high blood pressure, violence, and other autoimmune deficiencies. In addition, there are also other causes of vision loss specific to newborns and young children.
